Why is ESK called an Independent School?
The Episcopal School of Knoxville is an independent school because it designs its own programs and curriculum, operates without financial support from the state
government and is governed by its own Board of Trustees. Unlike public schools, which are funded by tax dollars, independent schools rely solely on tuition, fees, annual fund proceeds and endowment income.
What is the Annual Fund? Isn’t tuition enough?
The Annual Fund is a yearly appeal for donations to support the current year operations of the School. These tax-deductible gifts also enhance and strengthen the day to day life of students and faculty members by supporting a variety of programs, including academics, faculty development, financial aid, the arts, athletics, technology and the library.
Tuition covers about 86% of the cost of an ESK’s education. No independent school could charge the full cost for the education provided without seriously limiting the number of students who could afford to attend.
What is ESK’s Annual Fund Goal?
Our 2006-2007 Annual Fund goal is $260,000 in unrestricted giving.
Who contributes to the Annual Fund and when?
In addition to current parents, the Annual Fund receives strong financial support from alumni parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, special friends and corporate matching gift programs. It is our hope that everyone will have pledged to participate in the Annual Fund by December 1, 2006 and all payments must be received by no later June 30, 2007.
How much should I give?
Only you can determine that, but please give as generously as your circumstances allow. Each gift brings us closer to our goal and participation is a critical element of the Annual Fund.
