2007 Gala Update

Photo for the Episcopal School of Knoxville“Lights, Camera, Auction--ESK Goes to Hollywood” is the theme of The Episcopal School of Knoxville’s Third Annual Saints’ Gala, an evening of dinner and dancing on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Downtown Knoxville Marriott. WATE anchor Lori Tucker will serve as the Mistress of Ceremony.

Parent Volunteers headed by Jacque Clem are planning the event, which will feature alive and silent auction and a raffle sponsored by Rodefer-Moss & Co. PLLC with prizes that include a cash prize of $500 and a diamond necklace.

What's a Hollywood-themed party without a movie premiere? The ESK Gala will be the world premiere of the school's Middle School Technology Club movie. Students have recreated scenes from favorite movies including “The Blues Brothers,” “Napoleon Dynamite” and “The Wizard of Oz.".

Headshots of each student will be available for sale at the Gala with many of them blown up to form the basis of the decorations for the event. “It’s really important to me to bring the spirit of the students into the event. I want their presence to be felt,” Mrs. Clem said.

Tickets are $75 each and table sponsorships start at $1,500. Persons interested in buying tickets may call the school at (865) 777-9032.

Proceeds from the Gala benefit the school's Annual Fund. The Annual Fund helps to ensure that the library and technology centers have the most current resources, and that cultural classes like art and music are available for all students. It is also the major source of funding scholarships. Scholarships are an important component to ESK and are available for families who otherwise might not be able to attend such an academically outstanding institution.

More than 275 people attended last year’s Gala, "A Black & White Ball," which raised more than $75,000 for the Annual Fund. Proceeds from last year's Gala also built a new soccer facility on campus. Mrs.Clem said they are expecting at least 300 people to attend the Gala this year and is hoping to raise more than $100,000.

Oliver Smith, IV of Oliver Smith Realty and Auction Co. Inc.  will lead the live auction. Live auction items include a boat trip aboard a luxury cruiser to a UT football game and a fiesta fully catered by Agave Azul.

Other Gala committee members are: Carmen DiSanto, Acquisitions chair; Julia Mulaney and Ranee Taylor, Catalog co-chairs; Haely Bates and Susan Howell, Decorations co-chairs; Mary Walker, Budget Line Item chair; Katy Zahn,
Student Film chair; Elizabeth Hurst, Auction Staging; and Deb Hardison, Design.
