Athletic News

Soccer - This week saw the end to the soccer season at ESK. The Junior Varsity played on Monday afternoon at St. John Neumann. Their opponent was St. Joseph. Earlier in the season St. Joseph beat ESK by a 4-0 score but the game was completely different this time. ESK dominated from start to finish but could not put the ball in the goal. Time after time the ball went wide right, left or over the goal. St. Joseph only had a handful of shots on goal but they found the mark twice. Even though Emily Davis scored for ESK it was not enough and the Saints lost 2-1. They ended the season with a 2-5-1 record but with a lot of momentum for next year.

The Varsity played their first game on Tuesday against St. Mary's at St. John Neumann field. They picked up where the JV left off and thoroughly dominated the game but they were able to find the goal when it mattered. Duncan Greeley and Matt Murray scored 2 goals apiece while the defense held the Bulldogs to just one last minute score. The final was 4-1 in favor of the Saints.Next up for the Varsity was the semi-final round played at ESK against top seeded Concord Christian. The Saints played tough the first half but a couple of uncharacteristic defensive let downs allowed the visitors to score twice. This allowed Concord to pack the defense and forced ESK top play catch up. It was too much to overcome and Concord was able to take advantage of a weakened defense to win by a score of 6-0. The Varsity finished with a record of 4-5. Playing their final game for ESK were 8th graders Kyra Sichelstiel, Connor Whinery, Mathias Hoover and Hudson Ross.
