Campaign for Lower School
Campaign for the Brewington Family Lower School
“The Mission of the Episcopal School of Knoxville is to prepare students for higher education and a lifetime of learning within the context of a loving, family-centered environment. We enrich our students’ intellectual, physical, cultural and spiritual growth so that they may realize their potential as children of God and involved citizens of local, state and international communities.”
The Episcopal School of Knoxville is currently soliciting gifts to fund a brand new, permanent lower school facility. The Brewington Family Lower School will replace the founding modular classrooms with a 22,000 square foot facility designed by Barber McMurray Architects. It will house 212 lower school students, twelve full time faculty, twelve classroom assistants, four full time fine arts instructors, a librarian, chaplain, and a lower school director.
Timing for beginning construction on the $2,500,000 project was inspired by discounted building costs and the demand of a growing enrollment. The Board of Trustees has agreed to a $3,000,000 Capital Campaign to cover construction cost, financing and endowment.
At the January 28, 2010, ceremonial groundbreaking, officiated by Bishop Charles G. von Rosenberg, $2,000,000 had been raised for the project, and fourteen donors had participated in the effort. Following the lead gift of $1,000,000 from Steve and Mary Ellen Brewington, the school received a $250,000 contribution to name a wing in memory of the late Harry W. Stowers and a $200,000 gift to name the belfry in honor of Susie and Paul Siler.
Other naming opportunities are available for donor consideration as The Episcopal School of Knoxville continues its fundraising efforts for the Brewington Family Lower School.
