Biography of Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913. She grew up in Tuskegee, Alabama with her grandparents and her mother and brother. They all picked cotton. In 1932, she married Raymond Parks. He was a barber in Montgomery. She had lots of different jobs in Montgomery such as a hospital aide and maid. She finally got her high school diploma in 1933. Less than 7% of African Americans had a high school diploma at that time. Rosa Parks is most famous for not giving up her seat on a bus to a white man, which was the law at that time. She was arrested and put in jail. This started a bus boycott which meant the bus company lost a lot of money. Because of this, the law was changed. She fought to help black people for the rest of her life. She died on October 25, 2005.
