GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER
Biography of George Washington Carver

TN_GeorgeWashingtonCarver.jpgGeorge Washington Carver was born in Diamond Grove, Missouri in 1864. But back then he wasn’t a Carver. His mother was a slave to the Carvers. One night slave raiders came and stole him and his mother. The Carvers looked for them but only found George. Since they had no kids, they decided to raise George and his brother themselves. When George started school, he was twelve years old. He went to college in Iowa and when he finished he became a scientist and a teacher. He went to work at Booker T. Washington’s college (Tuskegee Institute). That’s where he found 325 ways to use the peanut. That’s what he was famous for. He also found uses for sweet potatoes and pecans. He died in 1943.
