3.  Assess.
Upon receipt of the application, you will be contacted to schedule an assessment and classroom observation time for your child.  Rising Kindergarten and First Grade students will be invited to attend one of two Screening Play Days in January or February.  Second through Eighth Grade Assessments will be scheduled at your convenience.

Admission Decisions will be mailed on March 9, 2007.  Enrollment contracts are due by March 30, 2007.

Admissions Step by Step

Our admission process is designed to bring together a balanced body of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles interests and talents. At the time of the tour,  families receive an admissions packet with an application and requests for transcripts and teacher recommendations to submit should they seek admission.  Upon receipt of the application, families will be contacted to schedule a time for an admission screening.

Lower School

Kindergarten and First Grade applicants complete the Gesell Developmental Observation Tool.  This assessment may be given at one of our Screening Play Days, or scheduled individually.

Second through 5th graders take the Wide Range Achievement Test appropriate for their grade and these are scheduled  at your convenience.  In addition to the individual assessment, students are observed in a classroom setting at our school during the academic day.

Middle School

Middle School students are invited to spend a half day with us at which time they will be evaluated in the classroom and given the Wide Range Achievement Test appropriate for their grade.  This assessment takes approximately 90 minutes.  Students remain for lunch and can be picked up at 1:00 p.m.

When a student is deemed acceptable by virtue of the assessment and classroom observation, his or her application is submitted to the admission committee for review and families are notified of acceptance by the acceptance deadline.  The Episcopal School of Knoxville admits students without regard to race, color, creed or national or ethnic origin.  Upon notification of acceptance, parents have time to respond to the Director of Admissions invitation for enrollment.  The number of available spaces is often limited; therefore students who cannot be admitted will be placed in a waiting pool and notification of availability will be made as space becomes available.
