Tribes

Student at work at the EPiscopal School of Knoxville. Our school community has been transformed by embracing the research-based process of Tribes Learning Communities. All faculty and support staff have participated in intensive professional development to learn how to develop  a caring learning environment and how to use an active learning approach that promotes healthy student development, increases motivation, and improves  academic achievement. The Tribes Agreements, visible in each classroom, help us to develop a safe, respectiful learning environment. The Agreements are:
Attentive Listening
• Appreciations/ No Put-downs
• Mutual Respect
• Right to Pass
• Let Go and Move On
• Parents, teachers, students and visitors sense the unique feeling of caring and support that Tribes has brought to our school. Here is what students say about tribes:
• “It helps you learn to speak up. “
• “You get greater respect for your friends.”
• “You learn how lucky you are to be a member of this school community.”
