Library

library ESKMany schools have quiet libraries because their facilities, big or small, are under-used. In stark contrast, the ESK library is a bustling place filled with more than 9000 volumes, videos, books on tape, more than 40 periodicals, and student designated computers. Students are encouraged to embark on independent study employing traditional reference materials as well as online databases to which ESK subscribes.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Library Media Center to serve the information needs of the students, parents, and staff of The Episcopal School of Knoxville and to ensure that the students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.
Research

ESK follows The Big 6 Skills Information Problem Solving approach to research endorsed by the American Association of School Librarians. This approach takes the researcher through six consecutive steps of the research process from defining the task to evaluating the effectiveness of the final product and the efficiency of the research process.

Great Books Scholars Program

Beginning in 2003, a Great Books Scholars program was created for middle school students. The program encourages the reading and discussion of classic works of literature. Students who wish to be recognized as Scholars must read three titles from the Great Books List and participate in the group discussion of a common book.

Birthday Book Club

The Birthday Book Club is an independent school tradition, allowing each child to select a book as a gift for the school library in commemoration of their birthday. The program is entirely optional but is encouraged, as it teaches the joy of giving, reinforces the value of reading, and, birthday by birthday, expands the offerings of the library for every current and future ESK student.

If you have questions regarding any of the library policies or programs, please contact Julie King at king@esknoxville.org.

ESK Honor Code

We are committed to instilling and nurturing a sense of integrity in each of our students. All Middle School students sign an honor code each year, which states that they will not lie, cheat, or steal.
